Mosses and Lichen Forest Walk

Mosses and lichens are a fascinating, diverse but often overlooked part of our ecosystems. On this forest walk two local youths, Siler Russ and Levi Smith, will share their naturalist skills to help us appreciate and identify these small yet widespread species, while Forest Project leaders Rudi Ruddell and Emily Boles will navigate us through the trees.  

Although this walk will have a primary focus on mosses and lichens, the Forest Walks are casual and fun and will undoubtedly cover additional members of "all our relations" as we explore a few of the more fascinating Natural Communities on this special land.

Want to enjoy more time on the land and delicious food? Stay after the walk for Flying Dog Farm's Burger Night which will start at 4pm and go to 7pm on August 9th. It's the best spot for community mingling with music by local artists, and you can watch the calves and piglets playing in the field!

About the White River Land Collaborative Forest Project

 The Abenaki-led Forest Management Project combines Indigenous Knowledge with current management and conservation practices to create a balanced form of land stewardship that promotes the inclusion of principles which are culturally and ecologically important. The Abenaki understanding of land and all of its inhabitants helps foster a reciprocal relationship with the environment. This can heal past degradation and create future stability for communities.

Additional details:

- Family friendly and open to all ages, although content is not geared for young children.

- Our path may take us through unmaintained areas and on steep slopes. 

- Footwear appropriate for hiking is recommended.

- Dress for the weather.

- Please bring any food and water you may need.

- Registration is required. Please let us know if you aren’t able to attend so we can open up your spot.

- Please arrive closer to 1:45am. The walk will begin at 2pm and end at 4pm.

- Restrooms are only available at the parking area.

- We ask that you leave your pets at home as we are on a working farm.
